Outline

GAZE 2024 is a brand re-fresh with care, applying accessibility best practices to an already established visual language.

Building upon the identity I developed in 2022, this year I sought to fine tune the brand and bring it into the 21st Century. Simplifying the pixel motif, and highlighting accessibility across all outputs, especially the website and printed programme. The new identity feels fresh, dynamic and youthful whilst still retaining the early-digital-age aesthetic of previous years, albeit toned down.

In 2024 the festival grew significantly, which meant designing for new touchpoints and using new techniques. Most notably, we recieved EU funding for accessibility which meant overhauling the design system to meet the needs of diverse audiences.

Applying best practice in typography, colour, language, and digital formatting meant simplifying my approach to layouts, and getting comfortable with negative space. I also upskilled on accessible web design practices, and was proud to deploy a fully WGA compliant site from scratch using HTML, CSS & Java.
